He is proud of himself when he names the right shapes and colors and counts the right number of each. He was having trouble with puzzles, but since he started with this something clicked within him and he has begun to understand the concept of smaller pieces coming together to make a larger picture. My 3 year old got this for Christmas and loves it. When he gets it out he prides himself in arranging the boards/patterns around him so he can view his art.
You put one piece in, and the rest of them slide out of place. I usually love Melissa & Doug toys, but this puzzle was a little disappointing. So unless you are planning on getting rid of the picture boards, like one of the reviews recommends, try looking for something better. This puzzle would, probably, be better if the pieces were magnetic. Although, I love the concept and the educational value of it, it can be pretty frustrating. The pieces do not stay in place.
Amazon to the rescue.The only downside is that the small pieces are loose, I was hoping maybe the boards would be a cover for the wooden box, but they are not. play with it, he finally figured out to match the shapes with the ones on the boards :) It was the perfect gift, turns out they were looking for one of these and just hadn't been able to find it in the stores. Guess you could put the pieces in a plastic baggie.otherwise they'll end up all over the place :P Bought these for my autistic nephew, who LOVES shapes. After watching the rest of the family (it was hit with everyone).
like everything about it except that it doesnt include a lid so storing it is annoying. got this for my two year old who is learning colors and shapes.
We are very happy with this purchase. I have a young child 8 who has many difficulties this toy and others like it really help her to calm down when other things do not work.
